Azure Fiber is seeking a proactive Optical Engineer to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will take ownership of developing, standardizing, and maintaining fiber optic testing protocols with minimal supervision. You will independently design and implement production testing for fibers and cables, establish robust test methods, and ensure consistent execution across the production environment. In addition, you will provide bespoke test methods to support R&D initiatives, tailoring testing solutions to facilitate innovation and product development.
Your responsibilities will include conducting lab-based product characterization, analyzing test data to drive process improvements, and documenting best practices for ongoing use. You will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, and Modelling teams to introduce and validate new products, supporting the launch of innovative hollowcore fiber and cable solutions at our state-of-the-art Romsey facility. Proficiency in hardware automation and data analysis is essential, as you will play a key role in upholding the quality and reliability of our fiber optic technologies.

Responsibilities
- Designs and develops automated testing solutions. Independently conducts automated testing on moderately complex feature areas or products within a subsystem.
- Displays knowledge in a specific engineering domain and acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitor products, the customer experience, and advances in various engineering fields. Shares knowledge with others on their team.
- Gathers information and participates in make-versus-buy decisions based on complexity, financial impact, quality, reliability, and time duration.
- Creates robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans for the hardware engineering aspects of moderately complex and well-defined products or features.
- Implements or recommends technical solutions to moderately complex quality and design challenges, and provides guidance to other team members.
- Reviews verification plans to determine whether current test equipment is suitable for measuring features of product technology based on newly created or modified verification plans. Advises in the purchase of new test equipment.
- Develops coverage and process in the outsourced testing plans that defines the format of the content to be reported by the external partner/supplier.
- Uses data/statistical analyses to identify complex problems or flaws that may affect a feature or product design change. Identifies possible solutions and brings them to the attention of other engineers or team leads.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND technical engineering experience
- OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
- AND experience in programming languages AND relational databases.

- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
