Optometrist – Premium Refractive Surgery Clinic

Location: Central London (with occasional cover at additional Central London clinics)

Salary: £65,000–£75,000 (depending on experience)

Hours: Full-time, 5 days per week (occasional Saturdays required - Generally 1 per fortnight)

Overview

Compass Associates are proud to partner with a prestigious ophthalmic group renowned for delivering world-class laser and lens-based vision correction. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident Optometrist to join their expanding clinical team and play a key role in the development of a newly established, high-end clinic in Central London.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with some of the UK’s most respected surgeons, providing exceptional patient care across a range of laser and lens-based procedures — with no commercial or retail targets, and a focus purely on clinical excellence.

The Role

This is a full-time clinical role, based primarily at the Central London clinic (approximately 80–90% of the time), with occasional support required at sister sites.

You will perform a range of pre- and post-operative assessments for patients undergoing procedures such as SMILE, LASIK, PRK/LASEK, ICL, and Refractive Lens Exchange (including EDOF, trifocal, and toric IOLs).

As the sole Optometrist at the site, you will work closely with two surgeons and take ownership of the clinic’s optometric services, helping to shape and develop the role over time. You will also collaborate with a wider network of optometrists and clinical staff across the organisation, ensuring consistently high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive diagnostic and suitability examinations for refractive and lens-based procedures
• Manage pre- and post-operative consultations, providing detailed clinical assessments and patient guidance
• Liaise closely with surgeons to ensure continuity and accuracy of patient care
• Take ownership of the optometry function at Knightsbridge, developing processes and suggesting improvements
• where needed
• Provide occasional clinical cover at other Central London clinics when required
• Contribute to ongoing service development and uphold the clinic’s reputation for clinical excellence

Candidate Profile

• GOC-registered Optometrist with a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience
• Strong general optometry background; experience in private practice or hospital settings preferred
• Previous exposure to refractive or lens-based surgery desirable but not essential — full specialist training will be provided
• Confident, independent, and adaptable, capable of working autonomously as the sole optometrist on-site
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to engage effectively with surgeons and clinical colleagues
• Flexible and reliable, with the ability to adapt to a changing clinic environment and occasional Saturday work

Working Pattern

• Full-time, 5 days per week (Monday–Saturday)
• Rotating hours between 8am–5pm, 9am–6pm, or 10am–7pm depending on clinic scheduling
• Occasional Saturdays required, ideally every other week (flexibility can be accommodated)
• Diaries are planned 3 months in advance, allowing consideration for personal commitments
