Our orthopaedic team is at the forefront of innovative surgical techniques and comprehensive patient management. We are seeking a dedicated, motivated qualified professional to join our dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic Scrub Nurse/ODP team. The core purpose of this role is to primarily work within Trauma and Orthopaedics however at times due to the demand of the service, we will require you to work in a variety of specialities.
You must be a Registered Nurse or a qualified ODP with perioperative experience preferably in Trauma and Orthopaedics. In return for your hard work, we offer well-established, structured mentoring and staff development packages to support you in your role.
As a key member of the team, you will deliver high standards of perioperative care and can support multidisciplinary team to facilitate excellent patient care in the operating theatres. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the patients within the operating theatre. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care and support throughout the perioperative environment. You will also support the planning and preparation of the environment which will involve communicating with the wider service team.
To ensure the safety and efficiency of the patients in an operating list from start to completion, escalating any concerns in a timely manner to the Team Leader and Floor Coordinator.
Prepare the operating room for a range of cases, ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, consumables and stock levels are available for the day ahead.
Scrub and circulate for a variety of minor to complex procedures within your NMC/HCPC scope of practice in elective, trauma and emergency procedures.
Communicate effectively with the surgical team and the wider multi-disciplinary team
Support with post-operative care as required, ensuring accurate documentation is recorded and handed over in line with the NMC/HCPC standards for Records and Record Keeping and Trust policy.
Participate in organising the specialist equipment required for the procedures ahead of time and communicate this with the relevant internal and external parties
To assist the surgeon, anaesthetist with emergency/elective procedures in the operating theatre departments as required.
To understand the principles of clinical governance and the impact on patient care i.e. audit and evidenced based practice.
Act safely and develop skills to be effective in emergency situations, e.g. cardiac arrest.
Participate in the development of your Personal Development Plan, identify your own professional, educational and training needs and goals.
To ensure your own continual professional development in line with NMC/HCPC requirements.
