Location: Based Duthie Park - can work across multiple sites

Duration: Permanent, Fulltime

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,285 per annum / £16.64 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job Purpose/about The Role

The post holder will develop new audiences and increase public awareness of the heritage of the city’s parks and David Welch Winter Gardens, by creating and delivering a comprehensive service for learners of all ages, encompassing initial enquiries, delivery, outreach activities, site visits, and support. The post holder also will promote the appropriate use of the parks by members of the public and other interest groups, through volunteering and workshop opportunities. Emphasis will be placed on developing relationships with schools, community groups, and the public, utilising the opportunities available in the parks, such as the natural environment, heritage, history, and horticulture.

The Post Holder Needs To Hold As a Minimum

Teaching qualification or equivalent educational experience (a relevant degree with appropriate experience, e.g. Community outreach, heritage or environmental development

The Postholder Is Able To Demonstrate

  • Working with members of the community of all ages, both with individuals and groups.
  • Communicating with a wide range of people, including school children, in both oral and written forms.
  • Customer focus and dealing with enquiries.
  • Experience of working within audience development and educational activities in a natural or historic environment.
  • Assisting with the day to day management of volunteers.
  • Experience of developing projects to engage underrepresented sectors of the community
  • Producing educational resources and working with schools, linking to work in the classroom
  • Working with budgets
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workloads to deal with simultaneous demands and to achieve deadlines.
  • Ability to work proactively and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to the Line Manager.
  • Experience using a range of computer packages e.g. Microsoft Office and online research information
  • Preparing publicity and interpretation material.
