This post would suit someone who has an interest in working with children and supporting the physiotherapy team. We particularly welcome candidates with previous experience as a physiotherapy assistant/technician. This post does not require a physiotherapy qualification.
About The Role
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated Paediatric Physiotherapy Assistant to join our friendly paediatric physiotherapy team delivering physiotherapy services to children with special educational needs in mainstream and special schools, nurseries, and the community. The team is part of an integrated Paediatric Therapy Service and offers a multi-disciplinary, family centred rehabilitation service to children with a variety of complex needs.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver an effective and competent level of support to clinical and school staff to enable the delivery of physiotherapy to children and young people aged 4-19 years with complex health needs in a variety of community settings.
Key Responsibilities
The work is varied and requires the applicant to have a flexible approach and to be able to promote good customer service and effective working relationships.
The post holder will work as part of the physiotherapy team, assisting PTs in providing a service to children who have a range of physical and movement difficulties and Special Educational Needs (SEN) attending Brent mainstream and special schools, preschool settings and musculoskeletal (MSK) clinics.
A significant proportion of these children will have severe and profound learning disabilities and challenging behaviours and may have English as an additional language (EAL).
Under the guidance of a physiotherapist, they will be expected to work independently with children, in addition to carrying out administrative duties to support departmental activities. The post will involve travelling between schools and community settings and working alongside PTs and education staff to carry out programmes, modifying and adapting activities to suit the needs of individual children and facilitating access to the curriculum and the environment. They will be expected to work collaboratively with children and young people, parents/carers and families. The post will also involve assisting in group activities in schools/community and MSK out-patient settings.
The post holder will contribute to departmental meetings and project work and will assist in the delivery of training to school staff and parents, on all aspects of physiotherapy.
