 WIG is delighted to be supporting the Legal Services Board (LSB) in the recruitment of three new Members to the Legal Services Consumer Panel (LSCP).

This is a meaningful opportunity to influence the future of legal services in England and Wales by championing the consumer voice in regulation and policy development. 

About the LSCP

Established under the Legal Services Act 2007, the LSCP provides independent, evidence-based advice to the Legal Services Board on how legal services are experienced by consumers, including individuals, small businesses, charities, and vulnerable groups. The Panel plays a critical role in promoting transparency, accessibility, and fairness across the sector.

About the Role

Panel Members are not traditional Non-Executive Directors. Instead, they take an active role in shaping workstreams, offering strategic insight, and collaborating with stakeholders such as regulators, policymakers, and the Legal Ombudsman. Members areexpected to lead specific areas of the Panel’s work programme and act as visible champions for consumer rights in legal services.

We are seeking candidates for three distinct Member roles. Prior experience as a Non-Executive Director is not required. Instead, we are looking for individuals who can offer independent thought, strong analytical and communication skills, and a deep commitment to equality, inclusion, and consumer-focused outcomes.

Vacancy 1:

• Experience analysing consumer data (e.g. from FMCG, retail or research sectors)
• Strong communication and influencing skills
• An understanding of central government operations would be of interest. 

Vacancy 2:

• Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide constructive challenge
• Strategic insight and experience working across different sectors
• Awareness of technology’s role in shaping regulation (desirable)

Vacancy 3:

• Deep commitment to access to justice and consumer advocacy
• Frontline or policy experience in supporting marginalised communities
• Understanding of consumer behaviour and trends in legal service usage

Time Commitment and Remuneration

• Approximately 15 days per year
• £4,500 annual fee (plus travel expenses)
• Hybrid working model; approximately six meetings per year.

• Appointment start date: 1 April 2026

Ineligibility 

The Legal Services Act 2007 specifies some circumstances in which a candidate is not allowed to serve as a member of the Consumer Panel. This includes anyone who is:

•  a member of the Legal Services Board or its staff;
•  a member of the Office for Legal Complaints, an Ombudsman appointed by it or a member of its staff;
• a member of the governing body, or of the staff, of an approved regulator
•  an authorised person in relation to an activity which is a reserved legal activity a person authorised, by a person designated under section 5(1) of the Compensation Act 2006 (c.29), to provide services which are regulated claims management services (within the meaning of that Act);
• an Advocate of Scotland;
• a solicitor in Scotland;
• a member of the Bar in Northern Ireland; or
• a solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland
