Responsibilities
- Drafting a wide variety of simple contracts (using established templates where available) across the Costain business, including supply/goods agreements, construction contracts, general commercial contracts, consultancy contracts, NDAs, variations, settlement agreements, heads of terms, collaboration agreements, software licences and services agreements.
- Negotiating with clients and suppliers to develop and agree contracts
- Working with the wider legal team and the business to ensure procedures and processes are in place to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Supporting the business to identify risk and to identify the best means of managing/ mitigating such risk.
- Supporting the team’s ambition to be high-performing , including identifying and implementing new technologies and processes to improve efficiency.
- Supporting the wider team on an ad hoc basis on ethics/fraud investigations, company secretarial matters and aspects of data protection compliance.
Qualifications
Essential
- Proactive self-starter who is highly organised and able to handle many ongoing and changing priorities without impact on outputs
- Commercially aware with a strong business acumen and a desire to support business objectives
- Ability to present key messages/complex matters in a clear, concise and engaging manner. Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Desirable
- Prior experience in an in-house legal team (or on secondment) / private practice
- Some experience of handling data protection matters
- Strong technical skills in contract drafting & negotiation
- Transactional contract experience
