The Team

The Contentious Trusts & Estates team specialises in trusts and estates disputes. The team’s work breaks down into big ticket trust disputes usually international and substantial probate disputes / inheritance act claims, usually domestic. These cases are usually high value complex and document heavy.

Scope

To provide paralegal support and legal research to fee-earners within the Contentious Trusts and Estates team.

Responsibilities

• Assisting busy fee-earners on document management (relativity, magnum and dataroom) on number of complex large cases
• Keeping inter partes correspondence updated on electronic directory
• Carry out legal research, using a variety of online and reference sources
• Draft and proof-read legal documents and prepare written reports as requested
• Methodically analyse and summarise complex issues; finding solutions and communicating them effectively
• Provide support to fee-earners on cases through investigations, drafting, research and analysis
• Prepare bundles/ files as requested
• Assist other members of the team when preparing for client meetings
• Attend client meetings, alongside other fee-earners and produce attendance notes as requested
• Provide wider support and assistance to the team in particular during busy periods or periods of absence (e.g. assisting in picking up calls, copying and general team support)

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience in a paralegal position would be preferred

Special Aspects

The hours of work for this opportunity are 09:30am-5:30pm but it is essential to be committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours when necessary and in response to client demand. Farrer & Co operates an agile working framework under which members of the firm are expected to spend at least 40% of their working hours in the office. This is a minimum expectation: individuals may elect or be asked or expected to work more frequently in the office, depending on circumstance.
