Your Role
The prime role of a Paralegal is to support the solicitor in the day to day running of their caseload and to assist with legal and administrative tasks, ensuring excellent client care, time management and attention to detail. The role will require the Paralegal to adhere to agreed practice and procedure in relation to compliance and quality standards. To provide cost effective support to Partners and other legal advisers in the Firm and the work of the Department. This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The Paralegal is expected to use a significant degree of self-management and initiative and is expected to work as part of a team.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- To exercise high standards of client care at all times in a professional and pleasant manner.
- To ensure the confidentiality and security of all the firm’s and Client documentation and information.
- To prepare legal documents, including applications, statements and forms as required.
- To carry out research, support and investigation in relevant aspects of law.
- To comply with Solicitors Accounts Rules and the rules on Professional Conduct of Solicitors.
- To maintain clear and precise communications with other personnel of the firm.
- To ensure good working relationships with external institutions and organisations.
- As requested, to support immediate support staff.
- To take responsibility for and attend to training and self-development requirements.
- In liaison with the Partners to be active in promoting the services of the firm and its image
- To assist with working on files under the supervision of a fee earner.
- To complete Public Funding forms when requested to do so by a legal adviser/fee earner.
- To attend Court or other hearings and meetings as requested by a fee earner.
- To prepare legal documents, including applications, statements and forms as required.
- To initiate contact with new prospective clients, to establish the nature of the case and eligibility of public funding and to give client’s information in relation to procedure.
- To open new files in accordance with procedure set out in the Office Manual.
- To work closely with fee earners in the general conduct of cases including filing, typing and photocopying
Person Specification – Key Skills/qualifications Required
- Computer and word processing keyboard skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Some previous experience of legal work
- Commitment to the ethos, values and strategy of the firm.
