An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12-month secondment as
Pathology Head of Education and Development. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic biomedical scientist to lead and develop education and training across our Pathology services.
The post holder will provide professional advice, educational leadership and strategic direction to support the ongoing development of the Pathology workforce. You will work closely with Pathology Management and wider stakeholders to drive service improvement, enhance workforce capability, and deliver high-quality, patient-centred services.
You will be instrumental in shaping and implementing education governance frameworks, developing leadership capacity, and fostering a culture of continuous professional development across the Pathology teams. This is an excellent opportunity to influence workforce strategy, support innovation and make a real impact on future service delivery.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide professional leadership and expertise for education and workforce development across Pathology services. Working closely with Pathology Management, they will support the development and implementation of strategies and policies relating to education, training, fitness to practise, workforce development, and clinical learning environments. A key focus of the role is to lead and coordinate education and development activity for Biomedical Scientists, Transfusion Practitioners, Anatomical Pathology Technologists, Healthcare Support Workers, and Clinical Scientists in training.
The post holder will develop and oversee educational governance frameworks, ensuring that services meet local, regional and national quality standards, and will monitor and report on educational metrics to inform service improvement. They will work in partnership with external agencies such as universities, HEIW and professional bodies, and act as a credible leader and expert resource for Pathology teams and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.
The role also involves planning and managing the delivery of education services within agreed activity levels and budgets, promoting shared learning opportunities, and ensuring training provision is underpinned by a sound academic and evidence-based approach.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with Masters Degree or equivalent experience
- Significant relevant experience in a managerial post
- Teaching/assessing qualification or experience
- Up to date in all current issues related to education and professional pathology practice
- Leadership training or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate management qualification
