An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated Patient Services Assistant to join our award winning stroke service.
Over the past 20 years stroke care has changed dramatically. Stroke is now treated as a medical emergency, where time is brain, and our service has developed to reflect this.
Our needs lead service admitting patients aged 18 upwards comprises of a dynamic multi disciplinary team, including research staff, that deliver evidence based patient centred care along our stroke pathway, from admission through to discharge to the community.

The PSA will focus on supporting the nutrition needs of patients, this will include:
- Taking on the role of 'nutrition co-ordinator' at mealtimes liaising with nursing staff to ensure that patients are sitting out or up in bed and ready to eat. Ensuring patients have hand hygiene wipes available, provide appropriate cutlery and aids, and implement the "red tray" system.
- Assisting patients at mealtimes and helping them with food where appropriate, ensuring that special diets, snack menus, finger food etc, are ordered
- Working alongside nursing staff to promote 'first a drink', helping patients with drinks to support hydration.
- Completing food and fluid charts. escalating concerns to nursing staff.
- Keeping nutrition board up to date.
- Responsible for the ward environment, adherence to Infection Prevention policies, general cleanliness and tidiness on the ward, maintaining effective communication with the patients, their relatives and professional colleagues.
