About The Role
Cleo is growing fast, and we’re excited to expand our Finance team with this brand-new role. This is a unique opportunity to drive (arguably!) one of the most important functions in any company - making sure our people are paid accurately and on time.
You’ll report directly to the Head of Finance, collaborate closely with one of our Management Accountants, and work cross-functionally with our People Operations and Legal teams. This role offers both responsibility and variety, giving you the chance to make a tangible impact on our employees’ experience while supporting Cleo’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Ownership of global payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely processing and compliance with tax and statutory requirements
- Manage relationships with external payroll providers in some of our locations
- Oversee payroll schedules, reconciliations and any related reporting
- Maintain the company’s cap table and ensure the accurate accounting of options, grants and exercises
- Partner with the Legal and People team on grant issuance, vesting events and stakeholder communications
- Collaborate with People Operations to ensure accuracy in employment contracts, parental leave, transport schemes and other benefits, as well as leaver processing
- Support with audit and company valuation processes with accurate payroll and equity data
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll and equity related enquiries
- Contribute to ad-hoc payroll, equity and wider finance projects as needed
What We're Looking For
- Degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting or a related field
- 2-3 years experience of working in a payroll position, either in-house or via an external payroll provider
- UK payroll experience is essential, exposure to the US or other geographies is an advantage
- Previous experience supporting equity programmes (options, RSUs or similar)
- Proactive and solutions-driven with a “get things done” mindset
- Detail-oriented and organised
- Experience of working within a fast-scaling (tech) business is a plus
What do you get for all your hard work?
- A competitive compensation package (base + equity) with bi-annual reviews, aligned to our quarterly OKR planning cycles. The salary range for this position is £40,000 - 45,000 annually.
- Work at one of the fastest-growing tech startups, backed by top VC firms, Balderton & EQT Ventures
- A clear progression plan. We want you to keep growing. That means trying new things, leading others, challenging the status quo and owning your impact. Always with our complete support.
- Flexibility. We can’t fight for the world’s financial health if we’re not healthy ourselves. We work with everyone to make sure they have the balance they need to do their best work
- Work where you work best. We’re a globally distributed team. If you live in London we have a hybrid approach, we’d love you to spend one day a week or more in our beautiful office. If you’re outside of London, we’ll encourage you to spend a couple of days with us a few times per year. And we’ll cover your travel costs, naturally. Given that this team is London-based, we’d prefer someone who is able to spend a day or two a week in the office!
Other Benefits
- Company-wide performance reviews every 6 months
- Generous pay increases for high-performing team members
