Over the coming years we will be building and improving crucial rail links between the country’s biggest cities, making our services faster, more comfortable and more reliable for the people who rely on us.

The route supports a diverse mix of high-speed intercity, regional, commuter, and freight services, traversing major commuter and leisure travel locations such as Kings Cross, Stevenage, Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Darlington, Newcastle, Morpeth and more.

East Coast Route is at the forefront of performance improvement, digital innovation, and collaboration—with projects such as the East Coast Digital Programme and a £1.2 billion upgrade plan that enhances signalling, tracks, and capacity.
