Pharmacist

Location: Fitzwilliam Hospital, Peterborough

Reports to: Pharmacy Manager / Team Leader

Contract Type: Permanent, Part-Time 22.5 hours

Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 | Saturday, 09:00–16:00

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and professional Pharmacist to join our pharmacy team at Fitzwilliam Hospital. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality pharmacy services, including dispensing, medicines management, stock control, and clinical support. Working across both inpatient and outpatient settings, you will ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines, supporting the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Technical


  • Accurately dispense and issue prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients in line with legal and professional standards.
  • Review inpatient prescription charts for clinical appropriateness and supply needs.
  • Provide expert clinical pharmacy input, supporting risk management and compliance with medicines legislation and Ramsay’s Medicines Management policies.
  • Deliver counselling to patients and professional advice to multidisciplinary teams.


Customer Service


  • Provide respectful, timely, and equitable care to all patients and staff.
  • Maintain strong communication with patients, clinicians, and hospital teams.
  • Positively represent the pharmacy and hospital services both internally and externally.


Teamwork & Communication


  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Mentor and support new staff members.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Handle conflict professionally, escalating concerns where appropriate.


Professional Development


  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and accountability at all times.
  • Participate in annual appraisals and actively pursue training opportunities.
  • Keep knowledge and skills up to date in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.


Risk Management & Compliance


  • Ensure patient and staff safety by adhering to Ramsay’s Health & Safety policies.
  • Complete all mandatory training (e.g. manual handling, emergency procedures).
  • Report incidents, hazards, and near misses promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold data protection standards.
  • Support infection control best practices.


Continuous Improvement


  • Actively contribute to pharmacy and hospital-wide quality initiatives.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and innovation in line with Ramsay’s goals.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential:


  • Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong customer service and IT skills.
  • Adaptable, resilient, and able to manage changing priorities.


Desirable:


  • Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Familiarity with JAC (CMM) and Maxims systems.
