HCA Surgical Inpatient Phlebotomists
Hours: 12 hours
Shifts required Monday to Sunday 8.00am - 2:30pm to cover a 7 day service on a rota.

Job Description: We are currently seeking dedicated and skilled HCA Phlebotomists to join our Surgical Division at Worcester Royal Hospital. As a Phlebotomist in the surgical wards, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient collection of blood samples from patients 7 days a week. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collecting blood samples with precision and care.
- Collaborating with the medical team to prioritise and organise sample collections.
- Ensuring correct labelling and documentation of samples.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Main duties of the job
Demonstrate competency as a phlebotomist for inpatients
Responsible for day to day management for the taking of phlebotomy procedures
Working with the ward managers
To co-ordinate the tasks required of the Phlebotomy team on the surgical inpatient wards
To mentor, supervise and teach new members of the Phlebotomy team
Participate in service development
The post holder will prioritise and visit the wards on a daily basis, in order to collect blood samples as requested by the clinical teams
The post holder will liaise with clinical and nursing teams and be aware of ward rules and procedures
The post holder will assess and confirm the patients identity matches that on the request form, following trust policy. Any discrepancies must be reported to the appropriate clinician or nurse in charge
The post holder will reassure the patient and alleviate any anxieties relating to the collection of blood and formally ask for permission to collect the blood specimen. If the patient refuses, the post holder must end the procedure and report to the appropriate clinician or nurse in charge, documenting the refusal.
The post holder will inform the clinical staff and document on blood request form if it was not possible to obtain a blood sample.
