What’s the role?
As a Lewisham plumber, you’ll carry out repairs and maintenance in tenanted properties, ensuring all plumbing and related works, like tiling and unit refits, are completed to a high standard. You’ll diagnose and resolve faults, work safely and independently across the borough, and provide excellent customer care. You’ll be responsible for your van, stock, and accurate record-keeping, always representing the Council professionally.

What We’re Looking For
As a plumber working across Lewisham’s housing stock, you’ll be responsible for completing a broad range of repairs and maintenance in both tenanted and void properties, ensuring all work is finished to a high standard with a strong focus on customer care and satisfaction. As a Lewisham plumber, you’ll handle the day-to-day essentials, fixing taps, wastes, clearing blockages, overhauling cisterns, and detecting leaks, especially across blocks of flats. The role includes related tasks like removing and refitting kitchen units, wall and floor tiling, skirting, and panelling, always making sure every job is safe, tidy, and up to spec.
You’ll manage your time effectively to attend appointments between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, communicating clearly and courteously with residents, supervisors, and colleagues from all backgrounds and abilities, always following Lewisham Council’s customer service and equal opportunities policies. In this role, you’ll be responsible for your allocated Lewisham Council vehicle, ensuring it’s properly maintained, safely loaded, and secure at all times. You’ll also be expected to look after your van stock and tools, report any issues promptly.
You’ll play a key part in providing an efficient, resident-focused repairs service by keeping accurate records, writing up work orders and reports, and being flexible to attend emergency out of hours call-outs if required. You’ll participate in training and the Council’s appraisal system to keep your skills up to date and ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements, including wearing the Council uniform and carrying your ID at all times.
To succeed in this role, you must be a fully qualified plumber, with City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), demonstrable experience working in social housing or a similar environment. Good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You’ll also need a full UK driving licence, a positive, professional attitude, and a commitment to equality, diversity, and excellent service for every resident.
Location
The job is primarily based in the Borough of Lewisham, but you may occasionally be required to travel to areas outside the borough.
Special conditions
- Qualified City and Guilds, NVQ level 3
- You must be willing to participate in out-of-hours rotas if required
- You’ll also need a full UK driving licence
- The job is subject to an enhanced DBS check

Salary
£41,580 - £42,861 per annum (S02)
N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
