About the Role
The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager is responsible for ensuring that all building remediation works and residential refurbishment projects are delivered in compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015). The role ensures that all project activities are conducted safely, sustainably, and with minimal environmental impact, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 and other relevant UK health and safety legislation across all residential refurbishment sites.
- Develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and risk assessments tailored to Building Safety related remediation and refurbishment environments.
- Act as the principal point of contact for all HSE matters, liaising with Client Stakeholders, the PMO and Programme Team, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Conduct regular sample-based site inspections and audits to identify hazards, ensure safe working practices, and enforce corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure timely reporting and implementation of lessons learned.
- Deliver HSE training and toolbox talks to site personnel and subcontractors.
- Represent and manage the delivery of the duties associated with the Client organization aligned with CDM 2015 requirements.
- Prepare and submit HSE reports and performance metrics to the Programme Delivery Director and Programme Manager in line with governance and reporting requirements.
- Promote environmental sustainability practices, including waste management and energy efficiency during refurbishment works.
- Support the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor in fulfilling their duties under CDM 2015.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety or equivalent.
- Membership of IOSH (e.g., TechIOSH, GradIOSH, or CMIOSH).
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a similar HSE role within the construction industry, preferably in residential refurbishment.
- In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, particularly CDM 2015.
- Experience managing HSE on residential refurbishment projects in the role of Client.
- Strong risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) is desirable.
- Training in first aid, fire safety, and manual handling is advantageous
Pay range and compensation package
- £50,000 to £55,000 per annum
