About Us
The British Business Bank is a government-owned economic development bank dedicated to making finance markets work better for smaller businesses. Our Investment Business division delivers innovative programmes that support the UK’s economic growth, including our Enterprise Capital Funds (ECF) programme.
The ECF programme is one of BBB’s longest standing and most successful programmes, with £1.4bn committed across 50 funds under 39 different managers since its inception. This has supported over £2.5bn of funding being committed to funds investing in UK early-stage equity. The programme enables new and emerging fund managers to invest in UK SMEs with high growth potential, while also facilitating the development of their own track record and attraction of private capital. The outcomes of the recent Spending Review have meant there will be increased activity in this programme over the coming years (in addition to new initiatives being introduced) and as such both investment activities and portfolio for the team are expected to significantly grow over time.
We are now seeking a Portfolio Analyst to join our ECF Portfolio Management team. This is an opportunity to help shape and deliver a cross-team approach to portfolio management within the ECF and the wider Investment Business and build a career in UK venture capital.
The Role
As a Portfolio Analyst, you will be involved in the oversight of our existing ECF portfolio, while also identifying and developing enhancements to portfolio management processes. You will work closely with Fund Managers to ensure our position is clearly represented, and may also have the chance to contribute to investment-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Use systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, PowerBI and Excel to manage portfolio administration, quarterly reporting, data quality and analysis.
- Administer consent requests, contract variations, and other commercial interactions with Fund Managers.
- Continuously improve portfolio management processes and governance.
- Prepare performance reports, portfolio composition analyses, and other ad-hoc insights for stakeholders.
- Create materials to promote BBB-managed funds and represent the Bank at events.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is highly organised, analytical, and keen to learn. You’ll be comfortable with data and systems, able to communicate effectively, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Understanding of finance or a willingness to learn.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Good understanding of financial modelling.
- Experience in the finance industry or other regulated environments
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent professional experience
Why Join Us?
At the British Business Bank, you’ll be part of an inclusive, values-driven organisation with a clear mission to support UK SMEs. We offer a supportive environment, hybrid working, competitive pay, and excellent benefits.

About British Business Bank
The British Business Bank is an established and influential institution with a key mission of driving sustainable growth and prosperity throughout the United Kingdom. It plays a vital role in supporting access to finance for smaller businesses, facilitating their development and contributing to the transition towards a net zero economy.
Since its inception in 2014, the British Business Bank has functioned as a government-owned economic development bank, operating independently to fulfil its objectives. It collaborates with over 200 delivery partners, including high street, digital, specialist, and challenger banks, venture capital and private debt funds, as well as fintech platforms, to implement its programs effectively.
With offices in Sheffield and London, the British Business Bank currently employs approximately 550 individuals.
As an organisation that values flexibility, wellbeing and collaboration, the British Business Bank introduced a hybrid-working model in 2020. Our colleagues typically spend an average of 2 days per week working in our offices, striking a balance between the advantages of remote work and the benefits of in-person collaboration. The successful candidate for this role should be able to commute to our office (unless specified).
At the British Business Bank, we aim to represent the communities we serve, firmly believing that different perspectives make us stronger. We strongly encourage applications from individuals with varied experiences and backgrounds.
As a Disability Confident employer, we commit ourselves to having an inclusive, equitable and accessible recruitment process supporting applicants and employees, making reasonable adjustments whenever it is feasible.
