Job Purpose

  • The Portfolio Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimising a portfolio of strategic large individual and / or multiple medium-smaller-scale projects. Ensuring all projects align with business objectives and deliver measurable impact.
  • Pro-actively project manages where demand dictates, ensuring expectations and deadlines are met.
  • Maintaining a deep awareness of execution details while staying elevated enough to identify risks, dependencies, and opportunities across multiple projects.
  • An intimate familiarity with project execution, particularly for key initiatives, and capable of communicating clear status updates, risks, and recommendations at a senior level.
  • Line management responsibility for all project managers and beyond tracking project progress, will enforce adherence to scope, combining subject matter expertise to implement improved efficiency, and coach teams to drive accountability and best practices.
  • Play an active role in supporting the Head of IT Delivery (UK and Bermuda) in evolving the Change Management Framework and championing its benefits across the Group.

Detailed Duties

  • Utilise extensive industry knowledge to understand any project or program scope, constructively challenging to determine optimal delivery methods in alignment with budget and timeline.
  • Be a 'team leader' for all project managers. Being perceived as a guiding force, someone who d emonstrates vision, integrity, empathy and effective communication skills. An individual who can see and harness the potential in others, helping them to reach their fullest potential.
  • Works closely with the Portfolio Management Office to:
    • Identify areas for improvement and enhancement in the delivery of Change & Transformation.
    • Drive process adherence and continuous improvement among project managers.
    • Manage any conflicts that cause impact to delivery.
  • Proactively manage the delivery of key strategic initiatives in accordance with the Change Management Framework.
  • Support and guide the team in the undertaking of all aspects of the planning process, including maintaining and managing detailed plans throughout a project life cycle.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders, contributors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure project deliverables are met according to plan and budget.
  • Create necessary project documentation, ensuring all documents are complete, accurate, current, and stored appropriately in line with the Change framework.
  • Promotes the use of Fluid, Ascot’s PMO and project platform.
  • Bring an inquisitive mindset, not afraid to ask questions or challenge accepted norms, and champion continuous improvement.
Person Specification

  • Experienced leader of people, having the ability to build strong relationships, coach and mentor team members.
  • Extensive, demonstrable project and programme management experience in the Insurance industry, coupled with the ability to think strategically.
  • Strong end-to-end Project Lifecycle experience, using a variety of methodologies.
  • Ability to facilitate, collaborate, influence and drive resolution across different stakeholders within the Ascot Group.
  • Demonstrates the confidence and communications skills required to work with people at all levels of the company.
  • Proactive and organised with good attention to detail.
  • Always leads by example.
  • Highly professional, energetic, diplomatic, calm, pragmatic and solution driven.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Self-sufficient and a self-starter who can think and act proactively.
  • A willingness to be flexible and respond appropriately to changing and / or conflicting demands.
