About Us

The Taipale group is newly established at the Wellcome Sanger Institute within the Generative and Synthetic Genomics programme. Our overarching aim is to solve the sequence-to-function problem: how gene function and regulation is encoded in DNA sequences. Current lines of work include high-throughput determination of binding sites and binding specificities of human transcription factors using SELEX and fiber-seq and assessing the activity of random DNA within cells. We then use this experimental data to create AI models to identify regulatory elements that control cell growth during normal development and in cancer.

The lab also benefits from access to cutting-edge facilities at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and close collaboration with other groups at the Sanger and further afield.

This is a well-resourced setting where you’ll have the chance to broaden your skills, make a real contribution, and prepare for the next stage in your career.
