This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Manuscripts and Special Collections, helping to support the long-term preservation of the University of Nottingham’s archives, manuscripts and special collections.
You will carry out various practical hands-on tasks, working alongside the Conservator to repackage, survey and clean documents and collection items, including making custom-fit boxes.
You will also support our exhibitions and public engagement programmes by creating mounts and supports for display items and helping to install exhibitions. You will assist in the delivery of public services, including supporting staff, students, visitors and volunteers by demonstrating care and handling and preservation procedures.
You will have good standard of education including GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above. You will also have good IT skills with the ability to communicate and record information using Microsoft Office or equivalent software. You will also have the ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail. You will have excellent manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination, with the ability to handle fragile materials and use tools and sharp instruments to undertake fine detail work or crafts. Experience of working in an archive, library or museum environment would be an advantage.

This is a hands-on role working with collections and the successful applicant is required to work at King’s Meadow Campus with very limited opportunities for working from home.

Manuscripts and Special Collections is part of the University of Nottingham Libraries, based at King’s Meadow Campus. We have in our care over 3.5 million archival items and 80,000 printed items in the special collections dating from the 12 th century to the 21 st century. These include papers of leading Nottinghamshire families and their estates, the records of local businesses and organisations, the papers of political, literary, scientific and academic figures, and historical records of the University and its predecessor, University College Nottingham.

This is a part-time (28 hours per week), permanent post. Hours of work are Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm.
