Job Overview
We're seeking a Principal Designer/Safety Specialist to join our dedicated and growing team. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are delivered in compliance with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM15), ensuring that designs are safe to build and construction is carried out safely on site. You will be instrumental in embedding health and safety into the pre-construction and construction process and ensuring full compliance with CDM15.
Responsibilities
- Production of relevant CDM documentation
- Writing pre-construction information reports and compilation of the information pack for tender.
- Compiling the Design Risk Registers in conjunction with the design team
- Assessing contractor risk assessments and method statements and the Principal Contractors construction phase plan.
- Writing to clients to discharge their duties under CDM15
- Play an active part in internal and external stakeholder meetings, offering CDM/H&S advice during the full project lifecycle
- Collating the health and safety file
- Supporting the project team in managing construction design risk, undertaking site visits & audits to provide advice on health and safety improvements and best practice.
- Compiling Site Inspection Reports for the project team
- Supporting the delivery of the CDM Principal Designer role and the Site Safety Inspector Role. Driving improvements in health and safety at all stages from pre-construction to construction.
- Supporting the wider health and safety team.
- Act as a point of contact for the project teams regarding CDM/H&S matters, fully engaging with the project team on all matters pertaining to CDM15 regulations, Principal Designer role and any health and safety matters.
Other duties include:
- Assisting in the production of health and safety documents
- Supporting business development activities including client engagement and bid preparation
- Providing health and safety advice internally across the wider business and assisting with internal audits.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Prior experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
- NEBOSH (construction) qualification, construction related degree, HND or HNC
- Hold a CSCS card
- Knowledge and understanding of health and safety in construction and CDM15 regulations
- Understanding of the role of Principal Designer (CDM)
- Knowledge and understanding of the construction process, RIBA stages and the flow of information in the Principal Designer work-stream
- Have excellent communication skills, fluent in English both written and spoken, able to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders internally and externally and build strong working relationships, deliver written reports to a high standard
- Have fantastic organisational skills -be able to manage your own diary, be proactive in planning your workload and manage multiple priorities.
- Be driven and enthusiastic and have a willingness to learn and develop within the role
- Be a member of the Association of Project Safety and IOSH
- A full driving licence and the ability to travel within the UK to different client sites.
Whilst not essential to the role it would be beneficial if you have:
- Previous experience as a Principal Designer on large/complex construction projects would be beneficial.
- A Principal Designer CDM qualification
- Incorporated Membership of Association of Project Safety
