Are you passionate about driving economic growth and development in a dynamic and diverse region? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Principal Economic Development Officer to join our Planning and Economy Service, reporting to the Director of Development and Housing.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of economic development in West Berkshire. Local government is also undergoing an exciting period of change in the form of Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution; this role is a great opportunity to get involved in this process while articulating the attributes and benefits of West Berkshire. The Role
Responsibilities
As the Principal Economic Development Officer, you will be responsible for leading and delivering economic development initiatives that support the growth and prosperity of businesses in West Berkshire. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Working directly with businesses to provide support and advice on growth, investment, and expansion opportunities.
- Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to deliver economic development projects and initiatives.
- Conducting research and analysis to inform economic development strategies and interventions.
- Collaborating with external partners, such as local business organisations and government agencies, to promote economic development.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of policies and strategies that support economic growth.
- Managing projects and ensuring successful delivery within agreed timescales and budgets.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Significant experience in economic development, with a proven track record of delivering successful initiatives and projects.
- Strong knowledge of economic development principles, practices, and funding sources.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with businesses, partners, and colleagues.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and confidently.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed recommendations.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
