Job Purpose
As a Principal Highways Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the technical aspects of larger highways projects or components of major highways projects, ensuring that financial, quality, and timeframe objectives are met or exceeded, along with fulfilling client expectations.
You may undertake a Project Management role in alignment with Arcadis Project Management Academy competence requirements. This involves collaborating with team leadership to oversee project delivery in accordance with Management Systems, meeting quality, budgetary, and health and safety targets.
You will champion client care, ensuring maximum satisfaction through proactive engagement and promoting the company's culture of leadership and innovation.
In leading technical delivery, you will handle medium-sized to moderately complex projects or elements of larger projects, with fees typically ranging from £100K to £500K. You will coordinate and manage project teams consisting of 5-10 engineers and technicians, ensuring optimal resource utilization and the achievement of quality outcomes.
Role Accountabilities
- Leadership and Delivery: Proven leadership experience managing multiple complex, highways projects and teams with a strong track record of successful delivery.
- Strategic Planning: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic project plans aligned with client and organizational goals.
- Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in engineering design, risk management, resource allocation, and financial control within engineering projects.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to present technical solutions and negotiate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Innovation and Improvement: Experience in fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within engineering teams.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of industry standards, regulations, and sustainable development practices.
- Professional Recognition: Chartered status or equivalent professional recognition, with contributions to industry publications or conferences.
- Mentorship and Development: Commitment to ongoing professional development and mentoring of junior engineers to support growth and succession planning.
Qualifications And Experience
- Education: BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Civil Engineering or similar discipline.
- Professional Status: Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or equivalent.
- Experience: Relevant experience supervising elements of large, complex highways projects, with project management experience preferred.
