About The Role
You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of design work for high-profile projects, including operational responsibility for a section of the Design team to ensure requirements and timelines are met and submissions are produced to the highest standard. In addition to this, you will be leading, coaching and developing the Design Engineers under you with a ‘hands on’ approach and inputting into the overall day-to-day management of the department by undertaking assigned duties such as CAD section management, quality assurance, software management etc.
Key responsibilities
- Managing the delivery of design work for projects, including operational responsibility for the delivery of such designs to meet client and business needs
- Overseeing live projects designated to your respective team, including project submissions and business development activities
- Looking after day-to-day quality management of systems and documentation to comply with internal and external standards
- Taking a lead when required for feasibility studies
- Proactively ensuring CDM compliance within design system
- Leading and ensuring design HAZOP reviews on projects are properly completed and recorded
- Dealing effectively with design problems to ensure efficient and profitable design, consistent with maintaining a high standard of quality
- Mentoring, training and developing engineering staff within your respective team
What you will need
- Educated to at least HNC/HND level in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, or similar discipline (Degree level education preferred)
- Preferably holding Chartered Engineer status
- 7+ years’ Design experience in at least one of the following fields: Building Services, CHP, Boilers/Heating, HVAC, Steam, Air Handling, Cooling, Renewable Energy (e.g Solar or Heat Pumps), or similar
- Familiar with RIBA Plan Of Work
- A strong understanding of Boiler, CHP, Plant Room, District Heating or Energy Centre projects
- Competent in AutoCAD
- Experience with Revit, IES-VE or Hevacomp (advantageous)
- Full UK manual driving licence
