Description
We are excited to advertise this opportunity, that has arisen due to the current post holder going on maternity leave.

We are looking for a practitioner psychologist who is passionate about tackling health inequalities and improving access to care for those who are least well served by health services, and who has experience in working with patients with chronic health conditions.

The role is multifaceted and varied. The focus is on supporting the systems around patients in the community to promote psychology and mental health well-being as an integral part of chronic disease management.

The role also includes direct clinical work, for example, supporting MDT management of acute and persistent pain and support to manage the emotional and psychological impact of living with a chronic health condition.

This post is part of a project funded by NHS England for a period of two years, with the aim of developing ‘end-to-end’ pathway support for people living with sickle cell disorder, to ensure the needs of sickle cell disorder patients are being met.

The post-holder, in collaboration with a range of MDT colleagues, will support improvements to service delivery within community services for patients living in North East London (NEL) with sickle cell disorder.

Sickle cell is one of the most common of the ‘rare’ blood disorders and disproportionately affects people from Black African and Caribbean populations

To improve care quality and patient experience for patients with sickle cell disorder.

To improve clinical outcomes for patients, for example to access medical support in a timely way, support to manage the emotional consequences of living with sickle cell disorder and improved pain management.

To achieve greater consistency in provision of psychological support across NEL, in line with evidence based/best practice guidance.

Collaboration with partners from across existing services, to enhance pathways.

Consultation, liaison, and training to other staff across pathways, to enhance psychological understanding and skills of other professionals seen by the patient.

Supporting the addressing of health inequalities, ensuring all patient groups benefit from psychological approaches by identifying underlying psychological factors and linking with accessible, effective community psychological support programmes.

To support the establishment of permanent funding for psychology provision.

You will be joining a growing psychology team within the Haematology Service at the Royal London Hospital, which has benefitted from the establishment of several new psychology posts over the past 12 months; including an equivalent role in the paediatric sickle cell service, an assistant psychologist to support both posts, a lead psychologist with a focus on the inpatient sickle cell service, and a psychologist leading a newly established infected blood psychology service.
