Public Health Wales (PHW) is seeking applications from a dynamic, experienced public health professional who is passionate about improving health and wellbeing and reducing inequalities for babies, children and young people growing up in Wales

The post holder will join the team as a senior strategic lead within the Health Improvement Division, working at a national level with a focus on multi-agency collaboration and whole system working. The successful applicant will lead delivery of agreed strategic programmes of work within the organisational and divisional plans, including management of staff and resources

You will provide highly specialised advice and expertise on the development of public health strategy, policy and practice in relation educational settings and co-ordinate programmes of work across Divisions within PHW

You will have the opportunity to contribute to national level advisory groups, representing PHW and the Consultant in Public Health as required. You will have a key role in maintaining and developing relationships and strategic partnerships within the wider system including partners from across the statutory, voluntary, private and independent sectors at national and local level. Your role will be key to enabling effective development, delivery and evaluation of public health action that delivers improved outcomes for the population of Wales.

  • Lead the implementation and delivery of health improvement work within the education settings programme at an all-Wales level
  • Act as senior specialist in the area of interest maintaining an awareness of the latest scientific evidence and engaging with other specialists across Wales and beyond.
  • Lead the joint planning of collective action with programme leads across the specialist public health system ensuring synergy between local public health teams and the all Wales programme.
  • Provide advice related to educational settings on the implementation of public health policy and strategy at a national level to achieve high level strategic goals and population based outcomes
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate the delivery of the programme plans, relevant sections of the PHW Annual Plan and operational plan.
  • Lead the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of relevant public health improvement programmes working across organisations and sectors.
  • Ensure that all programmes are co-produced with the public and key partners.
  • Work with the Consultant in Public Health to ensure that changes in policy, strategy and legislation are reflected where appropriate in the delivery of the lead programme area to ensure they remain relevant to stakeholders and partners.
