About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our Health and Safety Team as a Principal Regulatory Officer. In this role, you’ll be primarily working on complex regulatory investigations, inspections and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation across the borough. You’ll collaborate with a range of partners including the HSE, Police, and Fire Service, and play a key role in protecting public health and safety.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your expertise in high – risk case management, legal proceedings, and cross – agency collaboration, while also mentoring junior colleagues and leading on specialist projects. This role offers a dynamic environment where your professional growth and impact on the community go hand in hand.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex health & safety investigations, including workplace fatalities and high – risk incidents.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and enforcement actions in line with statutory requirements.
- Provide expert advice, guidance, and compliance support to businesses and the public.
- Collaborate with key partners including HSE, Police, Fire Service, and other local authorities.
- Prepare and present legal cases, including evidence gathering, witness statements, and court appearances.
- Influence behavioural change through community engagement and proactive communication.
- Take ownership of a specialist area, lead projects and campaigns, and mentor junior staff.
- Respond to RIDDORs, notifiable diseases, and service requests with professionalism and urgency.
About The Team You’ll Be Working In
You’ll be joining the Health and Safety team within the commercial department, a dedicated group committed to making the borough a cleaner, safer, and healthier place for all. The team plays a vital role in protecting residents, workers, and visitors by ensuring businesses and individuals comply with health and safety legislation.
Our work directly impacts the wellbeing of the community – whether through proactive inspections, responding to serious incidents, or collaborating with partners like HSE, Police and Fire Service to tackle high-risk situations. The team includes experienced regulatory professionals who specialise in enforcement, compliance, and public protection.
In this role, you’ll report to the Regulatory Manager and work closely with colleagues across regulatory services, as well as external agencies, to deliver high – quality, responsive, and visible services.
