Job title: Principal Systems Engineer

Salary: Up to £ 70,000 (depending on skills and experience)
What You’ll Be Doing
- Oversight and responsibility for general systems engineering activities across the engineering lifecycle, as delegated by the METOC Engineering Delivery Lead
- Act as the point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
- Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
- Identify and declare any safety and quality concerns and raise opportunities for process improvements
- Through own personal and professional development, provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and development
- Produce reports of a technical nature or plans and present information to line manager, project management team and peers.
- Delivering allocated tasks within budget and to timescales as agreed with the project management team
Essential
Your skills and experiences:
- Previous experience leading or managing a small team on a technical level
- Working experience and knowledge of all aspects of the Engineering lifecycle.
- A background in Hardware, Software or Systems Engineering
Applicants should ideally be Degree qualified or have equivalent experience, likely to be in a technology, engineering, science or IT related discipline.
Applicants should be a Chartered Engineer or hold another equivalent professional registration with a relevant institution.
Desirable
- A good understanding of systems engineering methodologies and practices
- Competence and capability with systems engineering tools
The METOC Team
The Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) System manages the manual input, and automatic collection and measurement of environmental parameters from environmental sensors. Our small METOC Team is a mixture of System Engineers from diverse backgrounds. Their experience ranges from working within the MoD, Industry and the lecturing environment. There is reliance on a team ethos to enable the Project outputs, this way of working will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to play a pivotal in the in the delivery of the METOC system to the Type 26 Batch 1 & Batch 2 and Hunter (Australia) programmes, based from the Dorchester office.
The role will require close collaborative working with the T26 and HCF customers, and other external stakeholders
