What sort of work?

Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for a Probate Assistant/Paralegal to join our experienced Probate team in either our Bristol, Cheltenham or Exeter office.

In this role you will support the team in delivering a first-class service to clients. This will include:


  • Handling file opening procedures and drafting scope of work letters
  • Providing efficient and effective legal assistance to lawyers.
  • Probate administration including corresponding with relevant institutions, preparation of IHT forms; preparation of probate applications; inputting information into and maintaining estate accounts
  • Dealing with payment of liabilities and legacies and receipt of funds
  • Scheduling and compiling bibles of documents
  • Drafting deeds of appointment, trust documents and deeds of variation under supervision.
  • Completing legal research.

  • Trust disputes
  • Will preparation

Who are we looking for? We are looking for somebody who will understand our values and thrive in our culture. The role will be based in either our Bristol, Cheltenham or Exeter office and the ideal candidate will have:


  • Law graduate / studying CILEx / previous experience of working as a paralegal or legal PA, ideally in a Tax, Trusts and Succession team with probate experience
  • Ideally with experience of estate accounts and/or strong Excel skills, experience of MyHMCTS online probate application system and TRS registration process
  • Experience of working in a client facing role.
  • Experience of working in a process driven environment and working to deadlines.
  • Demonstrable experience of consistently delivering exceptional customer service standards would be an advantage.

  • Other skills required include:


    • Excellent interpersonal skills; effective communicator at all levels (written and verbal).
    • A commercial, pro-active 'can do' and professional approach to work.
    • Excellent organisational skills, demonstrable examples of multi-tasking and an ability to juggle competing priorities.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Must interact well with others in a sensitive and effective way - a team player.
    • Understand the importance of confidentiality and use of discretion.
