Process Engineer - Surface Treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, configure, and optimize plating shop processes from inception through to start-up and steady-state monitoring, ensuring continuous improvement through data analysis and best practice implementation.
- Create and document process standards including materials, test methods, and equipment specifications.
- Perform and maintain FMEA analysis for all plating shop processes, ensuring risk mitigation actions are implemented and managed effectively.
- Own the technical risk assessment for the Surface Technology department.
- Define operational quality metrics for the Operations team to enable trend analysis and support root cause investigations.
- Develop engineering documentation to support plating shop operations, including job cards and process instructions.
- Establish standards for current and future plating activities, focusing on process improvement, standardization, line design, and cost reduction.
- Evaluate plating solutions, equipment, and practices for compliance with OEM and approved standards (e.g., Boeing SOPM, CMM, ASTM), and monitor changes to these standards.
- Identify and specify production tooling requirements for new capabilities or process improvements.
- Support internal and external teams in the development of new tooling to ensure product quality, throughput, and consistency, including documentation for tool usage.
- Review new substances for OEM compliance and regulatory requirements (REACH, COSHH), contributing to SHE assessments.
- Provide technical support for daily operations, development projects, and laboratory activities.
- Investigate and develop new processes, methods, and layouts to enhance equipment flexibility and throughput, aligned with OEM constraints and supported by the Continuous Improvement team.
- Lead investigations into non-conformities, working within a matrix environment to resolve deficiencies through process or tooling adjustments.
Skills and Experience required:
- Highly Innovative, analytical, decisive, multi-tasked, and goal oriented individual is required with the ability to manage time and resources.
- Ideally 3-5 years of electro-plating or plating experience in a R & D or process related position. Experience in a multi-faceted metal finishing operation that produces finished parts, ideally for Aerospace components.
- Training in Lean manufacturing, Continuous improvement, and Statistical Process Control.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distil technical information for both a technical and non-technical audience .
- An approachable team player, who proven to work in a matrix environment.
- Excellent IT and numeracy skills, ideally with knowledge of MRP & ERP / MS Office systems.
- Experience of working within an Aerospace environment to EASA 145 standard or equivalent manufacturing/maintenance industry.
- Understanding of REACH and COSHH requirements at a working level.
- Bachelors of Engineering - Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineer or Process Engineer. Alternatively a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or related science with proven interest in improving surface technologies.
Up to £37,895 salary.
Monday to Friday days with some flexibility based on business needs.
