Producer
UTV
Permanent
Part-time, 24 hours per week
Office location: Belfast (This is an office based role unsuitable for hybrid working).
Hiring range: £41,284 - £47,525
Please note: This is to assist candidates in assessing their suitability for the role. The range does not represent a longer term salary commitment for the role.
The team
UTV is part of ITV News which delivers high quality, trustworthy and impartial journalism to millions of people on television and online. The programmes team at UTV makes many hours of content for Northern Ireland across a number of genres ranging from current affairs to factual entertainment and is recognised for the high quality of the output.
The role
We are looking for a successful producer to join our operation at our studios at City Quays 2 and at Stormont. While this role could be assigned to any of our news & current affairs programmes over time, at present we are particularly looking for someone to lead our weekly political programme, View From Stormont, which runs for an hour on Tuesday evenings.
We want someone who can deliver a huge impact across all our platforms, reflecting the latest political discourse and breaking new ground. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working under pressure as newslines emerge and working to tight deadlines given our fast paced current affairs environment.
To be considered, you will need to be experienced in studio and film production, capable of generating original story ideas, discussions and treatments to create compelling content. You will also need an in-depth knowledge of politics at all levels, including international, as well as a wide ranging list of contacts.
A detailed understanding of regulatory compliance, media law, health and safety legislation and editorial considerations are also essential prerequisites.
Technical skills are also important to this role - you may be expected to self-shoot and self-edit, as appropriate.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to be the kind of talented team player we’re after, we want to hear from you. Reporting to the Editor, Programmes, you will need to be confident, self-starter, able to see programmes through from start to finish as part of a small team.
If you are interested in this position, please send us a CV and a brief summary of why you believe your skills, knowledge and experience make you suitable plus an outline of two ideas for programmes.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is at the heart of what we do at UTV and we want to ensure we reflect our audience both on screen and in our workforce. ITV is for Everyone and we encourage applications from Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people and People of Colour to apply for this role.
Newsrooms are busy and pressurised environments, involving live news production, which often requires colleagues to make quick decisions under pressure. We also need people who are able to use their initiative and, particularly for editorial roles, know what information might be required and how to research it.
We need to test these abilities at the interview stage to understand how candidates will react when operating in a pressurised environment. This is a fundamental requirement of the role. We will always consider any request for reasonable adjustments as part of the interview process, for example sharing key themes when that is requested in connection with a neurodivergent condition, whilst still ensuring that we are able to test a candidate's ability to operate in the specific environment of a newsroom.
