What is the opportunity?
The Finance Department provides support to the business and fulfils internal and external financial reporting functions. It is responsible for providing monthly and quarterly reports on business performance to management and all areas of the organisation, including head office in Tokyo. It performs a vital role in the annual business planning process, coordinates the external audit, produces published accounts, and is responsible for tax policy and compliance. The Finance Department’s Regulatory Reporting Team is responsible for monitoring and reporting regulatory capital and liquidity. It also provides reports to the Bank of England and the Japanese Financial Services Agency (‘JFSA’).
The Product Control area is responsible for the main internal reporting and control functions relating to the trading elements of the Company. In this capacity it works closely with the business and Risk Management department both in London and Tokyo.
What will you be doing?
Primary responsibilities are to produce and analyse defined daily trading P&L, verify the values of the positions held by the trading desks and substantiate TSL and other trading related trial balance balances. Additionally, they will provide some supervisory oversight of the onshore team producing desk based reporting. Controllers are expected to develop a good understanding of the products they monitor and of the strategies used by the trading desk to generate revenue. Also responsible for maintaining a control framework that allows for review and oversight of production by junior team members.
This includes, but is not limited to, the following major tasks:
P&L reporting
- Reporting of Daily, Monthly & Year to Date Trading P&L and Balance Sheet for assigned desks as well as P&L attribution and commentary
- Reconciliation between the front office systems and sub-ledger as well as firm’s general ledger
- Report material adjustments to the P&L, including discrepancies to the desk’s flash to the team supervisor
- Ensure all balance sheet related breaks are investigated and resolved in a timely manner
- To help meet all daily and monthly reporting deadlines
- Ensure daily control checks are complete and reviewed
- Make, review and challenge Post Close Entries (PCE’s)
- Planning and tracking resolution of infrastructure issues
- Daily FX exposure reporting
- Month end cost plus processing and other adjustments
- Assist Team Supervisor in provision of weekly and monthly commentary / analysis for Head of Department
- Build good working relationships with Revenue division and other support departments
Oversight & Team Supervision
- Supervision and development of more junior staff performing the above.
- Establish appropriate control checkpoints to ensure required deliveries are of an appropriate standard and within stated deadlines.
Project Management
- Manage small projects as required to deliver process improvement and or efficiencies.
- Review of new business initiatives and PC functional requirements
What do you need to succeed? - Undergraduate Degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as Accounting or Finance or Maths related; or equivalent experience;
- Strong numerical and analytical skill;
- Aptitude to learn and grasp accounting concepts and financial products;
- Competent user of Microsoft Office – in particular, Microsoft Excel.

- Demonstrable ability to innovate, support change and problem solve
