Product Manager - Payments

London – 5 days in office

£70,000 + bonus

We are looking for a Payments Product Manager to support UK domestic payment platforms (FPS & Bacs). This isn’t a generic PM role.

You’ll be embedded within engineering squads, working across the full SDLC while also taking ownership of run-the-bank operations. You’ll ensure operational excellence, resolve incidents, triage bugs, refine technical requirements, and keep the payment platforms reliable, compliant, and performing at their best.

What You’ll Own

Run-the-Bank & Operational Excellence

Manage daily payment operations and platform health
Lead incident management, bug triage, and root cause analysis
Proactively identify risks, ensure robust controls, and drive continuous improvement

Technical Collaboration

Translate business needs into clear technical requirements and user stories
Work closely with engineering, operations, compliance, finance, legal, and risk teams

Participate in agile ceremonies: stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement

Payments Product Management

Support and evolve UK payment products (FPS, Bacs, Confirmation of Payee)
Ensure products deliver customer value, remain resilient, and comply with regulations
Own performance metrics and drive improvements in uptime, transaction success rates, and customer experience

Change Delivery & Product Development

Lead regulatory and scheme-driven change initiatives (e.g., ISO 20022 migration, fraud initiatives)
Define backend requirements, support API design, and evolve transaction processing infrastructure
Maintain vendor and scheme relationships to ensure SLAs are met and performance is optimised

What We’re Looking For

5+ years in product management, with at least 3 focused on payments and technical delivery
Deep knowledge of UK payment systems (FPS, Bacs, COP) and regulations (PSD2, PSR, FCA, PRA, Bank of England)
Comfortable writing requirements for backend teams, designing API specs, and understanding messaging flows, reconciliation, and reporting.

Strong SQL skills are required, with the ability to write complex queries for data analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting.

Experience with incident management, bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira), and root cause analysis.

Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, logs, and system metrics.

Experience managing BAU operations alongside product development and regulatory change

Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills

Data-driven, analytical and focused on operational excellence

Proven track record managing both BAU operations and product development, including incident management and regulatory change programmes.

Experience leading complex projects with technology, operations, compliance, risk and legal teams.

Excellent communication skills, able to align technical and non-technical teams and represent product needs across a variety of different stakeholder fora.

Understanding of cost drivers, pricing models, and P&L implications for payments products.
