What Are We Looking For
Product Safety & Compliance & Validation is responsible for compliance, functional safety, validation and testing of ITMs portfolio of electrolyser products.
The Product Process Safety Officer will lead the Process Safety Team to ensure that ITM Powers electrolyser product portfolio is functionally safe for use in the market segments in which they will be deployed and used by customers.
You will be the technical safety authority, responsible for the management of hazard analysis studies including HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA and the close-out, to time and budget, and necessary management of change (MOC) process where appropriate.
Responsible for managing the Process Safety Team and managing, leading, co-ordinating, and supporting process safety risk assessment activities including HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA. Develop ALARP principles and calculations to support LOPA assessments.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate, lead and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies including HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA, Delegate and track progress through to completion of actions and recommendations, including chairing HAZOP LOPA close-out meetings
- Lead technical safety reviews
- Support creation of basis of safety documentation
- Knowledgeable in IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 with good understanding and / or application of all stages of the design cycle, i.e. analysis, design, implementation, operation and maintenance
- Lead in the development of a Functional Safety Management (FSM) plan, i.e. functional safety assessment (FSA) stages 1 through 5
- Leading and mentoring a small team of safety engineers
- Conduct 6 monthly training and competence reviews of Product Safety Team
- Lead in the development of a process safety management framework(s)
- Creation / review of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) proof test procedures
- Proficient in Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) reviews Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification calculations
- Improve awareness of process / functional safety across the ITM business, i.e. through internal training, guidance and mentoring colleagues in Design & Engineering, Testing and other functions
- Customer liaison as appropriate and necessary
About You
Knowledge and Experience
- Chemical / Electrical Engineering or other Engineering related degree. Either Chartered status or actively seeking it through a recognised organisation e.g. IChemE or similar
- Minimum of 5 years as a process / functional safety engineer in the hydrogen, chemicals or industrial gases industry
- Certified functional safety expert, i.e. FS Engineer (TV) or similar would be advantageous
- Certified and / or experienced in managing safety studies and chairing HAZOP and LOPA studies
- Have essential gas (hydrogen and oxygen) expertise
- Have knowledge and experience of explosive atmospheres (IEC 60079 and ATEX/DSEAR regulations)
- Have knowledge of hazardous area classification / consequence tools such as Phast, Quadvent
- Have an understanding and experience of safety and compliance legislation in the UK and EU
- Be proficient in Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) reviews Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification calculations in terms of reliability block diagrams (RBDs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) etc.
- Be a certified Functional Safety Engineer status
- Project execution experience
- Have essential gas (hydrogen, oxygen) expertise
- Have knowledge of DSEAR, ATEX equipment and workplace Directives, and equivalent legislation and corresponding standards and industry codes of practice in the UK and Europe
- Have significant experience of hazardous area classification and preparing DSEAR, ATEX, IEC Ex and equivalent safety cases
- Demonstrate an ability to work within a Quality Management system (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 45001)
- Knowledge of ISO 22734 electrolyser standard would be an advantage
- Demonstrate an ability to work to engineering best practice within a matrix organisation
- Have strong organisational and documentation skills
- Be able to influence and guide working activities undertaken by cross functional teams to facilitate on time delivery of products and projects
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively at various levels within ITM and with customers and regulators
