ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a proactive and energetic individual for this key role in our supply team, to protect our brand as we grow. With a keen eye for detail and an analytical mind, you will be responsible for ensuring and improving quality, food safety and legal compliance of our product range.
Your role, working as part of the Supply Chain team, will be to support the wider team and our 3rd party manufacturers to manage the Quality Management System, resolve product quality issues and oversee product testing to ensure we have the best product in the market.
In a nutshell, you are responsible for:
- Product quality & co-manufacturing technical relationships: working with our co manufacturers to ensure our products are made to the standards expected.
- Corrective and Preventative Actions: product and packaging issues need to be appropriately identified, effectively communicated, and investigated, working closely with the rest of the Supply Chain team
- Complaints Handling & Reporting: work with our brand team to ensure complaints are effectively tracked and managed. Investigate concerning trends and escalate urgent incidents.
- Product Testing: ensure appropriate testing takes place, including organoleptic, allergen and microbiological.
- Documentation Management: regularly review our documentation and keep our procedures & records updated.
- Specification Management: ensure finished product specifications exist for all products.
- Quality improvement projects & NPD/ EPD Project Support: support our Senior Product Manager to deliver quality improvement projects with manufacturers and the technical execution of EPD / NPD projects.
- Packaging / Artwork Process: support the artwork development and change process, leading on nutritional’s and legal compliance.
- Supporting the wider business on ad-hoc tasks: this might be helping out with sampling, mucking in when a big delivery arrives or auditing local retail stores for on-shelf compliance.
IN MORE DETAIL, THIS MEANS:
Quality Management System Delivery & Maintenance
- Ensure the Quality Management System is being adhered to both within Supply Chain but also by other teams in the business
- Effectively manage Quality Management documentation and complete regular reviews.
- Ensure we have consistency in document format and writing to achieve an aligned and effective Quality Management System
- Keep the training log to show appropriate training has taken place against relevant Procedures.
- Prepare and share Quality reports internally to ensure the rest of the Supply Chain Team and Senior Leadership Team are kept informed about Quality performance.
Technical Co-Manufacturer Oversight
- The first point of contact on anything technical related.
- Lead the technical agenda on regular calls to share updates, address challenges, and keep everyone aligned—helping to shape and improve communication processes as we grow.
- Lead monthly Quality performance meetings.
- Support and develop our supplier management procedures by planning regular site visits and maintaining clear records, helping to formalise these processes as the business scales.
Corrective and Preventative Actions
- Prepare and share monthly Quality reports with our manufacturer partners.
- Raise non-conformances with our manufacturers.
- Lead on identifying and investigating product issues. Ensure corrective and preventative action plans are in place.
Complaints Handling
- Effectively track and manage our customer complaints, to improve quality where needed, as well as investigate concerning trends.
- Work with our Brand team who engage with the customer create a positive customer experience and ensure all information for investigating is captured
Product Testing
- Complete monthly testing of all products to ensure our products are in line with our specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor and complete appropriate shelf-life testing for our full range.
- Work with our contracted lab to appropriately test our products for allergens and / or microbiology. Keep accurate records for due diligence.
Specification & Supplier Documentation Management
- Manage our log of all finished product specifications and update finished product specifications when required.
- Communication with our manufacturers to ensure alignment on specifications.
- Ensure our manufacturers are producing to specification.
- Lead the creation and development of QAS documentation
- Create new specifications for new products / product ranges when required.
- Gather and manage key supplier documentation, including Certificates of Analysis, allergen declarations, and raw material data.
- Ensure relevant supplier certifications (e.g. BRC, Organic, RSPO) are up to date and filed appropriately to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development of scalable processes for managing specifications and supplier documentation as the business continues to grow.
Quality improvement projects & NPD/ EPD Project Support
- Support the Senior Product Manager to deliver product quality improvement projects
- Work with Senior Product Manager and technical consultants to deliver new product innovation, contributing to risk assessments and supporting supplier approval for new factories.
Packaging/ Artwork Process
- Ensure artwork adheres to legal and compliance requirements, including but not limited to nutritional information and local legal requirements
- Play an active role in the process for approving new artwork
- Actively contribute to making our wider culture and place of work best in class
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- BSc in Food Science / Food Technology / Food Manufacturing / Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 2-3 years experience operating in a similar role – ideally in the food and drink industry
- Health, Safety and Quality obsessed – strong knowledge of Quality & Food Safety standards (HACCP, GMP, ISO, BRC) and an understanding of food labelling and legislation
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office) – able to use Excel for analysing quality trends and creating performance reports.
- A fantastic communicator - you will be working on a day-to-day basis with our manufacturing partners.
- A proactive problem solver – you can keep calm when faced with a challenge and love working through the details to find a solution.
- Experience of working closely with food manufacturers (or in manufacturing) – Whilst all our manufacturers have Technical teams, we work closely with them all. Internally we aspire to have great knowledge of the production process plus our manufacturer’s Quality Management Systems.
- Willingness to travel regularly to our co-manufacturing partners.
