The business, which is headquartered in Swindon, is a leader in its chosen markets with rapidly growing sales supported by its extensive R&D and manufacturing capabilities.
This role leads the Production teams and activity for a Manufacturing site producing and developing new to world technology, supporting a complex fast changing research, development and rapidly growing manufacturing environment as the Hydrogen Technologies business continues to evolve towards high volume manufacture and commercial success.
As a
Production Department Manager you will plan, direct and monitor all production activities within assigned area(s) to maximise the use of business resources and meet established overall production KPIs, including volume, cost, safety and quality measures. Determines manufacturing priorities based on established monthly/quarterly/half yearly production activities. Operations are of a mid level complexity (e.g. multiple shifts/lines/products).
Your responsibilities:
- To oversee and drive daily departmental performance, including managing the production team and coordinating support functions within a matrix management structure.
- Provide leadership in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to enhance processes, equipment, staff awareness, and training, ensuring continuous EHS improvements and alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs) as well as regulatory and corporate requirements. Responsible for overseeing the department’s EHS performance.
- Ensure that all corrective actions identified in incident reports within your areas of responsibility are appropriate, completed thoroughly, and within the established timelines.
- Foster a "quality first" approach and drive ongoing improvements in the quality output produced by the team.
- Contribute to and help build robust processes based on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to identify critical equipment, develop preventive maintenance strategies, and establish asset lifecycle management plans, including the strategic replacement of equipment.
Requirements for the role:
- Proven experience in managing production operations, driving efficiency, and leading high-performing teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of general Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) management principles.
- Proven leadership and decision-making abilities and the ability to lead by example and build a successful team.
- High energy and enthusiasm for the role and team development
- Strong business and customer awareness.
- Skilled at distilling complex situations into clear, concise summaries for senior leadership or non-experts.
