Project Palm (part of the bank-wide Project Cedar) is the vehicle through which Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) will deliver a simplified organisational structure and deliver on its commitments to HSBC Group, in a way to most effectively execute against its strategic priorities. This role will focus on driving successful execution of CIB’s strategy to transform the business and will support key stakeholders responsible for execution of the enabling workstreams (e.g. CIB businesses and functions) through the transformation effort.


Global Payments Solutions (GPS) is one of the transaction banking pillars within CIB. GPS is a top payments provider globally (#2 by market share) and recognised as a global cash leader (#1 in Euromoney survey ‘24).


GPS enable CIB clients to move money, manage balances, and gain deeper cash flow and treasury insights through a comprehensive and market leading suite of capabilities across payables, receivables, liquidity and cards. The business is uniquely positioned to help clients make payments across borders, across currencies and regulations, quickly and efficiently with dedicated in country and regional support. Our expertise in this area is repeatedly recognised by the industry’s most prominent publications and associations with numerous global, regional and country awards.


We are looking for a high calibre Programme Manager to join our team. You will plan, mobilize and lead projects of high complexity and scale from project definition to closure. You will be responsible for the end-to-end planning and delivery of one or more projects proactively balancing scope, schedule, budget, risks, team, outcomes and benefits. Furthermore, you will deploy Change frameworks within projects, working closely GPS leads to ensure alignment of their projects / programme with the broader change portfolio and the Group Strategy, Values and Behaviours.


In this portfolio and oversight role you will:

  • Manage a small portfolio and oversight team responsible for overall governance of the programme for GPS business and reporting to CIB overall programme.
  • Understand the GPS Value Stream Strategy, imperatives, and vision to be able to work with senior leaders across GPS to build and develop their organisational design, target operating model and location strategy. Whilst having the ability and gravitas to influence and challenging existing thinking, generating new and creative ideas.
  • Track progress of the overall project and ensure on time execution including the identification, mitigation and ongoing management of risks issues and dependencies. Including the identification and defining problems related to change delivery for the wider business.
  • Implement models to ensure detailed tracking and reporting of complex programme benefits
  • Delivering structure and discipline to an unstructured problems, risks and issues
  • Engendering an innovative, learning-oriented culture where all employees feel able to contribute new ideas and approaches as well as involving change audiences in generating new ideas
  • Willing to experiment, take risks to consider new and untested approaches and learn from the results


To be successful in this role you should have:

  • 12 to 15 years + of Project / Programme experience of managing large, complex plans across countries and regions, especially business transformation.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of working with strategy and function board. Excellent communication skills.
  • An ability to challenge, problem solve and provide alternative solutions as well as strong planning and organizing, ability to see the big picture.
  • Knowledge and experience of building and implementing Target Operating Model, organisational design and location strategy essential
  • Experience of complex benefit and P&L tracking essential
  • Previous experience of working in a payments / transaction banking business line desirable
  • Previous experience of working in HSBC desirable
  • Knowledge of Clarity project management tool desirable


Required Skills & Experience:


* At least 5 years financial services experience.

* Ideally educated to degree level.

* Knowledge of ICON would be useful but not essential.

* Must show attention to detail.

* Excellent analytical and communication skills required.

* Team player with the ability to work with limited supervision.

* Comfortable dealing with client contacts and third parties.

* Ability to meet tight deadlines and assist colleagues throughout the business.

* Comfortable researching and disseminating technical knowledge to the team.
