The group contains a number of business units, including, SCX, who design, build, test and install some of the worlds’ safest mechanical handling systems across Nuclear, Defence and Aerospace.


Purpose of the Role

To lead and deliver a portfolio of projects safely, on time, to quality and budget, while ensuring alignment with SCX’s financial targets and values. This role is accountable for developing and managing people, building strong client and stakeholder relationships, and supporting future business growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of delivering a portfolio of complex engineering projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, to budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Lead and inspire your project teams, providing clear direction, developing talent, and fostering a high-performance culture aligned with SCX’s values.
  • Manage project finances, ensuring targets are achieved and supporting the overall success of SCX.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders, acting as a trusted point of contact throughout project delivery.
  • Proactively communicate progress, risks, and opportunities to clients, colleagues, and the SCX leadership team.
  • Plan and allocate resources effectively, including redeployment, recruitment, and subcontract management where needed.
  • Ensure project scope is well controlled, while identifying and securing opportunities for contract growth.
  • Support business development by contributing to bids and proposals, helping SCX secure future work.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.


Skills & Experience Required

We’re seeking an experienced Programme Manager who can bring strong leadership, commercial awareness, and project delivery expertise to SCX. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A proven track record of successfully delivering complex engineering or technical projects, ideally in sectors such as defence, nuclear, infrastructure, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues, and partners.
  • Solid financial and commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and achieving project profitability.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on delivery.
  • Experience in planning and allocating resources, including managing subcontractors and suppliers.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to manage risk and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and relevant qualifications (such as APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent) would be an advantage.


Location: Sheffield with requirement to travel to customer and project sites as required
