Vulcain Engineering Ltd, our UK business, is well positioned within the UK Nuclear industry. We provide the flexibility our clients demand by working at our customers' sites in the UK and Europe as well as carrying out work remotely on their behalf. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of organisational support to key projects.
At Vulcain Engineering UK, we are proud to be at the forefront of major energy infrastructure, supporting the UK's journey to Net Zero through the development of Sizewell C (SZC), one of the most ambitious low-carbon projects in Europe. Building on our extensive experience at Hinkley Point C, our teams are helping deliver the next generation of nuclear power.
Lead the Delivery of Major Infrastructure on one of the UK's Largest Projects.
We're now looking for a senior leader to take ownership of a major civil works package on site. As Programme Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in the successful execution of complex, high-value infrastructure - overseeing a wide scope of enabling works, major civils, networks, and buildings on the Main Development Site.
Key Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the delivery of a major civil works area on the Sizewell C Main Development Site, ensuring alignment with the overall project execution strategy.
- Lead and mentor a team of Senior Managers, with overall accountability for the safe and effective delivery of enabling works, major civils, networks, and buildings.
- Act as a key member of the Site Delivery Leadership Team, setting direction, managing performance, and contributing to project-wide decision making and governance.
- Oversee multidisciplinary teams across safety, quality, engineering, and commercial functions - ensuring roles are appropriately resourced and SQEP-compliant.
- Own interface management across SZC delivery programmes (Civil Works, Nuclear Island, Conventional Island), resolving complex cross-cutting issues and maintaining programme alignment.
- Take full responsibility for delivery performance within your area - managing risk, cost, change control, and reporting into senior governance structures.
- Fulfil delegated Principal Contractor responsibilities in line with CDM regulations and SZC's project-wide strategy.
- Champion nuclear safety, continuous improvement, and a culture of learning across all delivery activities.
- Act as a senior representative for Vulcain with client stakeholders, delivery partners, contractors, and regulatory bodies
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something transformational - driving forward a nationally significant project, while contributing to the UK's energy security and climate change goals.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven leadership in the delivery of complex, high-value infrastructure projects (£multi-million), ideally within nuclear new build, heavy civils, or other highly regulated environments (e.g. energy, defence, utilities).
- Experience managing senior leaders and multidisciplinary delivery teams, with full accountability for programme scope, safety, quality, and commercial performance.
- Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete structures, deep foundations, formwork systems (e.g. slipform, jumpform, post-tensioning), and coordination of precast/in-situ concrete solutions.
- Ideally, an in-depth understanding of nuclear safety culture and regulatory frameworks, with experience working under ONR, EA, and Nuclear Site Licence conditions, including safety cases and hold points.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex project interfaces and deliver integrated solutions across civil, nuclear island, and conventional island scopes.
- Proven success in procurement and contract management of major packages under NEC and/or FIDIC, including claims resolution and commercial close-out.
- Proficient in project controls, including cost management, earned value analysis, risk, schedule, and change control.
- Strategic thinker with a track record of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and driving performance across multi-partner delivery environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels internally and externally.
- Degree-qualified in Civil, Structural Engineering or Construction Management; Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Fellow status (ICE, IStructE, CIOB) preferred; APM or Prince2 project management accreditation desirable.
