What you'll do:

As a Programmes Underwriter at Aspen in London, you will be in a delegated underwriting role and entrusted with significant responsibility for driving the success of complex insurance programmes. Your day-to-day activities will involve evaluating risks using advanced analytical tools, negotiating terms with brokers or clients, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks such as FCA/Lloyd's requirements, and producing precise documentation that meets contract certainty standards. You will collaborate closely with internal teams-including finance, operations, and senior management-to ensure seamless execution of underwriting strategies.


  • Contribute to the development and implementation of operational plans that align with Aspen's wider business strategy, ensuring all activities support key priorities and deliver optimal results.
  • Apply specialist underwriting expertise to assess, price, and manage risks within delegated authority limits, maintaining profitability across diverse insurance portfolios.
  • Advise colleagues as a subject matter expert by providing guidance on underwriting best practices, policy interpretation, and compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
  • Negotiate terms, rates, and conditions for both new and renewal business while ensuring contract certainty documentation is produced accurately and in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Support credit control processes by collaborating closely with finance teams to ensure timely payment collection and accurate record keeping across all transactions.
  • Participate in portfolio reviews and data analysis initiatives to monitor progress towards business objectives, identify emerging trends or issues, and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Act as a referral point for less experienced underwriters within the team, offering mentorship and support to foster their professional growth and maintain high standards of service delivery.
  • Produce detailed management information reports for senior stakeholders to facilitate effective monitoring of underwriting activity and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on relevant systems to ensure accuracy in relation to aggregate exposures, risk profiling, pricing tools usage, and loss modelling applications.
