INTERNAL VACANCY
This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.
Project cataloguing archivist
Manuscripts and Special Collections is expanding! We are recruiting a 12-month fixed term Project Archivist post thanks to Archives Revealed funding of the project: Spotlight on Community Youth Theatre – cataloguing collections and engaging audiences.
Manuscripts and Special Collections has a growing strength in theatre archives and has prioritised two theatre collections for cataloguing, access and engagement - Nottingham Youth Theatre, 1987-2020 and Footprints Theatre Trust, 1978-2018. The collections tell the stories and document the creative outputs of young community members. They exemplify the importance of theatre in education and inclusivity, highlighting evolving social issues and changes in regional theatre practices.
As Project Archivist you will catalogue these two youth theatre and educational theatre collections, increasing discoverability and helping to design and deliver a programme of outreach and engagement work. You will create detailed, item-level catalogues for the collections working from box lists. You will also help promote the collections you catalogue, working with colleagues in Manuscripts and Special Collections to increase their usage.
You will be a qualified archivist with experience of cataloguing, knowledge of cataloguing standards and familiarity with using an archive management system. Recent archival graduates are encouraged to apply.
You will be a self-motivated individual able to work under your own initiative. You will share UoN Libraries’ core values of respect, appreciation, ownership and curiosity.
So what’s in it for you? You will be working with unique and fascinating collections, helping to bring them to the attention of a wider audience and ensuring that their potential is realised. Manuscripts and Special Collections is part of the University of Nottingham Libraries. We have in our care over 3.5 million archival items and 80,000 printed items in the special collections. We are an accredited archive service.
As a university employee you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with 30 days’ holiday allowance (plus additional university closure days) and a highly attractive pension scheme. You can find out more about our benefits by visiting
Your Benefits page.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term opportunity for 12 months. Hours of work are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5:15pm. Job share arrangements may be considered. This position is based at King’s Meadow Campus, with limited opportunities for home working. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Don’t meet every desirable requirement? Studies have shown that candidates who identify as part of the Global Majority or are racially minoritised are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single requirement. We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you are excited about this role but your experience does not align perfectly with every requirement in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate.

Spotlight on Community Youth Theatre is made possible through the Archives Revealed funding partnership, thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Pilgrim Trust, the Wolfson Foundation and The National Archives.
