Job Description
Costain is working closely with Severn Trent Water on their Capital Delivery Framework, as part of its capital programme for AMP8. As part of the Design and Build Framework lot, Costain brings together its design, construction, and consultancy expertise to undertake renewal and refurbishment projects and will assist Severn Trent in its target to make continuous improvements to its safety performance, whilst ensuring continuity of supply and consequently lowering costs of its customers.
The Project Engineer will support the Project Managers and MEICA Managers in the preparation of specifications to enable our procurement teams to review design documentation which supports construction and commissioning, in addition to assisting in the integration of the supplier documentation into design.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the smooth and efficient co-ordination of all MEICA design activities on allocated projects, from outline design through to start of delivery on site, as specified by the Project Manager and MEICA Manager
- Reporting of MEICA design activities and progress to the relevant Project Manager, MEICA & Commissioning Manager and Design Manager’s as appropriate
- Provide Technical & Quality support for Project Delivery Teams throughout the delivery of the scheme
- Technical input, review and selection of subcontract tenders, supplier specification and scope of works, in addition to co-ordination and expediting of sub-contractors during off site manufacture
- Coordinate, review and monitor design deliverables such as Schedules, Specifications & Drawings
- Coordinate, review and monitor procurement deliverables such as free issue plant and equipment
- Liaison with design & procurement teams on all related issues & change control
- Ensure plant commissioning requirements are incorporated at design stage and to assist in Technical Governance
- Assist in the review of design deliverables, including FDS, equipment and instrument lists, P&IDs, control philosophy and telemetry requirements
Qualifications
- HNC/ Apprenticeship as minimum in a MEICA subject/ background
- Extensive experience in the water sector or in similarly highly regulated process environment such as energy
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Use of full office365 suite
- Clear communicator
- Strong technical written skills
- Ability to read, review, interpret and provide comment on technical aspects of engineering and design
