We have an exciting opportunity for a research professional to lead on all operational activities supporting the high-profile International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED) £50m virtual institute convened by CRUK to enable collaboration between six world-leading research universities in the USA, UK and Europe to drive forward the field of cancer early detection, including supporting research community-building, research management, evaluation, and communications (major projects can be tailored to suit the post-holder’s skills and interests)
In this varied role you will use your knowledge of the biomedical research and funding landscape along with your project management and stakeholder management skills to build and maintain effective relationships with key senior stakeholders in the Alliance, as well as drive development and delivery of collaborative initiatives for the Alliance, developing and implementing new mechanisms for facilitating collaboration between ACED researchers, both virtually and in-person; contribute to building a community and establishing new research partnerships.
Although this is an operational role, you will work closely with the ACED programme Manager and Head of Early Detection on strategic initiatives as well as governance and partnership management, so it’s a great opportunity to develop and broaden your skill set.
What will I be doing?
- Working closely with the ACED Programme Manager and Head of Early Detection, support vital aspects of the Alliance, including grants management and funding scheme setup, budget oversight and central administration tasks.
- Work with key internal CRUK stakeholders across and beyond R&I (including Grants Management, Strategic Partnerships, Research Brand and Comms, Legal, Patient Involvement etc.) to project manage processes key to the operational success of the Alliance.
- Devise and deliver new solutions to ensure that Alliance members are aware of research capabilities and resources across the Alliance, helping to form new connections and collaborations between ACED members and maximising possibility of effective collaborative research between sites through virtual and in-person initiatives (e.g. networking events, working groups, virtual tools to link researchers with complementary interests etc.)
- Work with the ACED Programme Manager, other key CRUK stakeholders and the Alliance Executive Board to develop, oversee and project manage the review process for the Alliance.
- Work with the relevant external and internal stakeholders to develop communications plans and platforms to ensure effective dissemination of knowledge and opportunities, across and beyond the Alliance.
- Work with CRUK and ACED member centre communications and events teams to support the delivery of scientific and other events, e.g. Alliance scientific symposia and networking events.
What are you looking for?
- Relevant experience of working in a research-related setting (either academic or industry)
- Sound understanding of the biomedical research and funding landscape (via academic achievements or through work experience)
- Proven track record of leading, collaborating on and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects successfully
- Relevant experience of working with, coordinating and influencing senior researchers
- Proven ability to form strong, positive collaborative relationships at all levels of seniority
- Knowledge of cancer research generally, or early detection specifically would be beneficial but isn’t essential
- Experience of managing collaborative multi-institutional and/or multinational projects would be beneficial but isn’t essential
