Interim Project Manager (Strategic Transformation – Retail)

Remote First – Occasional Travel to London

£550 per day

6-Month Contract (Inside IR35)


About the Role


A market-leading UK retailer is undergoing a significant period of transformation, and we’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a complex, business-critical programme across Commercial and Finance functions.


This is a high-visibility role, reporting into the Programme Manager, with regular interaction across senior stakeholders, including ExCo. You’ll coordinate multiple workstreams and external partners to ensure successful delivery of a technology-enabled business transformation.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of a strategic, cross-functional transformation programme
  • Oversee governance, RAID management, reporting, and project planning across multiple workstreams
  • Coordinate with internal and third-party delivery partners to ensure alignment on timelines and deliverables
  • Drive the creation of critical documentation and presentations for steering groups and executive reporting
  • Facilitate and chair key project meetings ensure actions and decisions are logged and followed through
  • Maintain structured updates for Portfolio Office, including fortnightly reporting and issue escalation
  • Act as the link between business stakeholders and technology teams to align strategy, execution and change delivery
  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment, balancing competing priorities


Essential Skills & Experience


  • Proven experience delivering large-scale transformation projects within a retail or similarly fast-paced sector
  • Strong project governance and PMO management experience
  • Comfortable operating at pace and managing ambiguity in dynamic environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with senior execs/ExCo
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and consulting partners
  • Advanced knowledge of project delivery methodologies (e.g., Prince2, PMP, Agile/Waterfall hybrids)
  • Track record of delivering business change as part of tech-enabled transformation
  • Highly resilient and solution-focused with excellent communication and reporting skills


Preferred Background


  • High-profile retail or telecoms business
  • Understanding of finance or commercial functions in a retail context is a plus


The Offer


  • £590 per day
  • Inside IR35
  • Remote-first (occasional London travel for business-critical meetings)
  • Initial 6-month contract with potential to extend
