The Role:
We’re seeking a Project Manager to support the PLC Group Sustainability Strategy Programme. Reporting to the Group Head of Sustainability Strategy, you will support the delivery of medium to highly complex projects within the Central Sustainability Office (CSO), ensuring alignment with business goals, pre-defined project deliverables, and sustainability objectives, to quality, cost and budget.
You’ll help define project scope, objectives, and resources, manage third parties, track and deliver expected outcomes through detailed planning and governance. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to drive results are essential.
They will have good communication skills and they will also be expected to engage and liaise with a full range of business / project / programme stakeholders, not only providing accurate, well written and professionally formatted reports and MI, but also to advise, challenge and offer recommendations and solutions, ensuring key governance deadlines are met to required quality and control standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver projects to agreed quality, cost, and timelines.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans and stage-level planning.
- Lead day-to-day project execution and team coordination.
- Define team structure, roles, and acquire necessary resources.
- Motivate and guide the project team.
- Monitor progress, manage risks, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Report regularly to the project board, escalating issues when necessary.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure governance compliance.
- Define and track critical success factors.
Knowledge & Experience:
Knowledge:
- Intermediate understanding of project planning and constraints.
- Basic knowledge of project methodologies and risk management.
- Awareness of project complexity and its impact.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience within sustainability and preferably at a financial institution.
- Technical knowledge of social and environmental sustainability issues.
- Broad understanding of key trends and regulation affecting financial services in the UK and the EU (e.g. SFDR, SDR, CSRD, CSDDD).
- Conflict resolution in project settings.
- Developing and embedding project standards.
- MI reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Familiarity with project tools (ServiceNow experience highly desirable).
Skills & Attributes:
- Self-starter with a proactive and collaborative approach, who is able to effectively engage with key stakeholders across the group.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication (verbal, written, listening).
- Analytical and well-organized, with high attention to detail, and the ability to present information clearly.
- Good planning and problem-solving skills.
- Knows when to escalate issues appropriately.
- Self-motivated and able to organise and prioritise their workload efficiently, interacting across all areas of the PLC sustainability project team and the wider organisation as appropriate.
- Excellent office skills and practical experience of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBi.
Qualifications:
- PRINCE2, APMP, or equivalent (highly desirable).
Desirable:
- Strong preference given to candidates available to start immediately.
- Experience of running and managing data projects is highly desirable for this role.
- Initial contract duration is 5 months, with a potential for extension.
- Candidates should have 3+ experience.
