Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About The Role

"This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established Project Controls Team as a Project Planner.

The team consists of a number of experienced Project Planners and Project Cost Engineers who work for the Programme Management Office (PMO) supporting contract management and project delivery on the site.

As a Project Planner you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the delivery schedules within a project (or multiple projects) at site. You will be required to work alongside a Project Manager/s in managing the project schedule looking at how best we deliver the work, including management of threats and opportunities to optimise project delivery."

Please note this role is based onsite at Hunterston A.

Key Deliverables


  • Provide support and specialist planning knowledge to the project team by utilising Primavera P6 software.
  • Liaise with stakeholders in different areas of the project.
  • Provide detailed project schedules that reflect potential risk and opportunities.
  • Hold regular project reviews with key stakeholders and produce a monthly schedule update, populating reports with Earned Value analysis.
  • Hold regular Risk and Assumption reviews and update of the Risk and Assumption Management Databases.
  • Analyse project performance, identifying potential risks and impacts to make recommendations to optimise delivery (minimise threats, maximise opportunities).
  • Review contractor/supplier schedules that have been submitted for acceptance and make recommendations to the Project Delivery team on the formal acceptance or not of that schedule.
  • Maintain integrity of the schedule through the Change Control process.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential: -


  • NQF level 5 or equivalent significant, demonstrable planning experience.
  • Considerable experience within a relevant project environment.
  • Understands the impact on schedules from a highly technical and regulated industry.
  • Working knowledge of the company planning tool or similar software.
  • Significant demonstrable experience of constructing, statusing and reading logic driven, resource and cost loaded project schedules.
  • Significant experience of rolling up and summarising working schedules.
  • Good understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Good understanding of Critical Path Analysis (CPA) / Programme.
  • Evaluation & Review Technique (PERT).

  • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

Please be aware this role holder requires security clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
