About The Role

We are currently looking for Project Supervisor’s and Senior Project Supervisors to join the team on our Great Grid Upgrade project based between Norwhich – Tilbury to build a new 400 kilovolt electricity transmission connection of approximately 180 kilometres in overall length from Norwich Main Substation via Bramford Substation and a new Tilbury North Substation, into Tilbury Substation.

The purpose of this role is to enact the role of Site Supervisor / Engineers Representative on behalf of the client across one or more construction site and ensure that the site-based construction activities across National Grid are efficiently managed in accordance with National Grid policies and procedures.

During this role, you would be expected to be on site 3 - 4 days per week in East Anglia.

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Awareness of Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
    • Awareness of Contract management within fixed price and target cost contracts.
    • Good understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policie.
    • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
    • Previous experience of project site management capability of working to deadlines and in a contracting environment.
    • Have a deep understanding of construction projects, preferably within the energy sector
    • Be able to solve problems and instill a positive safety culture within our projects, especially with our contractors
    • An awareness of project, contract and stakeholder management and client representative experience
    • Full driving licence is essential
    • Recgonised health and safety qualification

What you'll do

  • Ensure Principal Contractor (PC) Compliance Ensure the PC is proactive in discharging their duties under the CDM regulations, particularly in managing all safety aspects of construction activities.
  • Site Programme Oversight Review and comment on the deliverability of the PC Site Delivery Programmes.
  • Site Safety and Coordination Facilitate regular site safety walks and coordination meetings with all contractors. Ensure controlled access/egress to the site and maintain a site log/diary.
  • Risk and Method Statement Review Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Progress Monitoring Ensure the PC holds regular Site Progress Meetings and issues minutes. Monitor all activities and promptly advise the EPC Project Manager of any risks, opportunities, or delays that could impact completion date or costs.
  • Quality Assurance Support Support Quality Assurance monitoring across the Major Project.
  • Contractual Roles Enact the role of Employers ‘Supervisor’ under NEC contracts. Undertake the role of Engineer’s Representative for sensible monitoring of site construction activities, ensuring familiarity with all contract documentation.
  • Site Instructions and Documentation Issue site instructions following agreement from the EPC Project Manager and authenticate any record sheets issued by the PC. Ensure a drawing documentation system is established and maintained on site, with clearly indexed and updated working drawings/revisions.
  • Commissioning Support Assist National Grid’s Commissioning Engineer in reviewing and confirming the PC Commissioning programme’s deliverability.
  • Subject Matter Expertise Be a subject matter expert in industry construction standards, particularly in one or more of the following: Overhead Lines, Substations, Cabling, and/or Tunnelling.
  • Staff Development

Coach And Mentor Other Members Of Staff As Required.

Senior Project Supervisor

You will be managing a team of Project Supervisors to deliver a range of construction projects across the East Anglian region. The successful candidate will have a proven track record, be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities, and be looking for the next step on a development path to management.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £47,000 - £65,000 – dependent on capability.
