We are seeking a KDB developer to join a successful global team of developers delivering critical data tools and systems for the Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) business in Morgan Stanley. Quantitative Investment Strategies are synthetic funds where an algorithm is used to determine the contents of the fund on a daily basis. This role in London will be part of a larger global team of 20 people who are based in London, New York, Toronto, and Tokyo which is made up of a mix of server-side developers, KDB developers working on the data platform and python developers working on building a new platform for research to use.
The team works closely with the business and is focused on delivering cutting-edge technology to the firm's internal and external clients. A key part of this is the development of a new consolidated KDB platform to manage all the data requirements around these products while developing new tools and systems to streamline business processes and enable the business to expand into new areas.
The role involves all aspects of the software development life cycle: analysis, design and implementation. We need a flexible and practical technologist who demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills, enjoys all aspects of software development and will contribute to the success of the team.

This is a software engineering position at VP level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What You’ll Do In The Role
- Provide technical leadership and vision for software development projects.
- Define technical architecture and roadmap for large-scale, mission-critical systems.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Oversee the execution of software development projects, ensuring quality and on-time delivery.
- Represent the software engineering team in cross-functional discussions and planning sessions.
- You will work on and be responsible for a large tick based KDB plant and associate access points/API for the various consumers, from quants, backtesting systems, to algo trading systems.
- You will be part of a team of highly skilled developers
- You will be able to provide input into the strategic direction for the team and provide key input in to design decisions
- You will improve the system constantly to achieve stability and scale.
- You will design and consult on q queries to achieve analytics objectives of the various clients.
- You will partner with the desk strategists to deliver a commercial platform, where reactivity will be key.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strategic planning and execution of engineering projects.
- Ability to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Experience in designing/building/maintaining KDB
- Good team working
- Exposure to Python and SQL
- Knowledge of Java an advantage
- Understanding of Equity Derivatives Products would be an advantage
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience of working in an agile environment
