Rail Planner

Location: National

Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: 6 months fixed term

Working hours: 40 hours Monday to Friday

We’re looking for a detail-driven, safety-focused Rail Planner to join our team and take the lead in planning safe, compliant access for critical rail infrastructure work.

If you’re passionate about operational safety, risk management, and collaborative planning, this is your chance to make a real impact.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan and manage Safe Work Packs (SWPs), possessions, line blocks, and additional protection arrangements
  • Ensure full compliance with NR/L2/OHS/019 planning standards
  • Collaborate with Responsible Managers and operational teams to plan access safely and effectively
  • Use systems like RailHub, PPS, and GZAC to manage rail access and protection
  • Provide planning assurance, contribute to investigations, and help maintain our industry-leading safety standards

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the relevant internal procedures, industry standards and NR/L2/OHS/019.
  • Ensure you retain compliance with your mandatory Health and Safety training and other competencies
  • Ensure all SWP planning activities are undertaken within a suitable timeframe and documented
  • Ensure any issued identified in the above assurance checks are communicated to the relevant parties within a suitable timeframe and documented.

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

Hold and maintain the required Sentinel competence for SSOW Planner.

Have a detailed understanding of the relevant industry standards related to Safe Work Planning.

Have at least 5 years consistent relevant safety critical planning experience in the rail industry.

Experience of working safely within railway worksites and to Railway Standards.

Strong Systems & IT literacy.

Desirable:

Hold and/or be working towards a relevant level of safety qualifications: SMSTS, Nebosh etc.

Hold a full, clean UK driving license.

Have 10 years consistent relevant safety critical planning experience in the rail industry.
